Many athletes train like professionals but recover like amateurs. Muscle growth does not occur during your workout; it happens while you are sleeping and resting.

Central Nervous System (CNS) Fatigue Intense compound lifting (squats, deadlifts) drains the nervous system. The motor cortex must fire at high frequencies to recruit high-threshold motor units. When the CNS is fatigued: - Your rate of force development decreases. - Motor coordination degrades. - High-threshold muscle fibers cannot be recruited efficiently.

Autonomic Nervous System Balance To recover, you must transition from a sympathetic state ('fight or flight') to a **parasympathetic state** ('rest and digest'). - **Deep Breathing**: 5 minutes of box breathing immediately post-workout shifts the body into parasympathetic dominance. - **Sleep Quality**: Growth hormone release peaks during deep (slow-wave) sleep. Aim for 7.5 to 9 hours of quality sleep per night in a cold, dark room.
